Hiking the red rocks

Grand dad Steve took us out to a neat place that him and his buddies found. Wonderful picnic spot. We had a good time checking everything out. The was an old shack there, we guessed it was probably sheep herders a long time ago.

Just to give you an idea of the scale of the wall. In the center of the picture, along the very top of the cliff, there is a dark square, the petroglyphs were up there in that shadow. They were all along all 3 edges of that area. It was cool, there was no vandalism, pretty rare, unfortunately.

A close-up of the shack.

If you look VERY CLOSELY, you can see our kids trying to make it up, just going straight up the wall, they didn't make it very far.
Some of the cool petroglyphs that were up there. We were trying to guess what they meant. We guessed that the picture of the goat with the trail behind it was a map and that the circle things were a way to explain length of time. We could be totally off base but it was fun guessing.

I know I posted this one in another post but you can see quite a few of the petroglyphs in this picture.
What it looked like looking down from the top. You can see the shack with the caved in roof on the right side. The boys were very tired when we got home. They slept quite soundly. Thanks to Grand Dad for taking us out. It was so fun. Texas is mostly private land that we've found. You can't just go out and enjoy it like you could at home, at least until the government takes it away. That's a whole other blog so we'll leave it at enjoy it and respect it while you can.
